  1. The sad fact is that there are a lot of “medical professionals” like Dr. Sears in the US who aren’t *technically* anti-vax, but basically espouse that vaccines can be dangerous and modified schedules are safer for kids (they’re not). A friend of mine is a nurse, and there are more than a few nurses who are anti-vax or who believe in modified schedules, which also support the wacky anti-vaxxers arguments.

It’s really, really hard to actually change minds about this, and making fun might make us feel better, and feel superior, but I’m not sure it’s helping in the long run. There are better ways to engage and argue, but I don’t know how well those things work either.

Slightly off topic, but the “personal freedoms” argument has been around since vaccines have, even when smallpox was killing millions and variolation was being done by gunpoint.

edit: the last series from the Behind the Bastards podcast is really helpful if you want to understand the history of the anti-vax movement in the US.

  2. Just realised how dangerous it is to have a huge number of un-vaccinated people congregate together like this. It’s like the exact opposite of herd immunity. **I hope no-one brought their kids.**

Edit to embolden the relevant part. Stop replying with the same comment.

  3. Anyone watching should checkout his other series, LewReview. It’s very similar to Content Cop in the regard that he reviews other YouTubers and calls them out on their bullshit, but with his own sense of humour and style, it’s one of my favourite series on YT!

  4. After watching some of the flat-earth docco on Netflix last night, there seems to be a pretty basic formua behind all this:

    1. Find an idea that you desperately want to cling to – a cause to define your otherwise unremarkable persona
    2. Find evidence to support your cause
    3. Discount and refute any evidence against – no matter what
    4. Surround yourself with like-minded people
    5. Work that echo chamber until you’re all lathered into a frenzy
    5. You’re living in your own world now – fuck the rest of the world

EDIT: For the peeps asking, it’s “Behind The Curve” on Netflix

EDIT 2: Hey my first ever gold, thank you! I’ll use it to buy more tinfoil hats
