Sonica: Furniture Music

0
Continuing the Sonica’s five-year, high-profile partnership with The Lighthouse, Japanese sound artist, designer and electronic musician, Pentagram’s Yuri Suzuki, presents his solo exhibition that explores definitions of sound design in contemporary culture. The title, Furniture Music, comes from French composer Eric Satie’s description of his own music as “a sound that should not be actively listened to, but present at the periphery of our daily lives.” In this work, Suzuki attempts to re-design the domestic soundscape and suggest ways for sound to enhance harmony and comfort within one’s surrounding environment. Expect everything from singing kettles to musical washing machines.
