Marina Miller’s final dissertation piece for the University of Manchester’s Masters of Arts degree in Visual Anthropology.
“We have a couple of regulars, we call them ‘the furniture’. They’re here all the time, they’re part of the decor.”
The Furniture, a sensory media piece, seeks to put into conversation both iterations of “the furniture”: the interiors of Saint-Henri’s local restaurants, and the people that have, and continue to, frequent them. Part oral history and part archaeological inventory, this film addresses memory and trace related to the gastronomic gentrification of Saint-Henri, Montreal.
