Wow, That Paramedics blood must have been boiling. Do not know how he is able to stay professional in a situation like this and only letting out the “hes dead” comment. He dedicates his life to saving people, bad or good people, he saves humans. To show up to a call to sedate someone because the cops can not control him, only to find a bunch of cops laughing and joking while pinning a dead human to the ground. He says unfuckingbelievable in the ambulance because it really is, its insane that cops are really this stupid. Makes me more afraid of the police than ever, and to think this guy called 911 for help and was in handcuffs before they arrived yet he still got basically murdered by them.
And he called the cops himself. He was on cocaine and realized he didn’t have his schizophrenia medication and knew something bad might happen so he called the cops to help him. Which in the circumstances may not seem smart but is actually kind of wholesome because he knows he goes crazy without his meds. They killed him instead.

The cops need better training to identify and respond appropriately to suspects with mental illness. This is just sad.
The worst part is the case against them was thrown out by the DA. These imbeciles should be in prison for murder. It’s disgusting.

What we are seeing here is the relishing of incompetence. These people have no situational awareness. They think somebody will be able to just spring to life and start doing… whatever after having been placed on his stomach with a knee in his back for almost 12 minutes.
There is zero empathy towards the man who called them for help.
If you call the cops in America you’re not sure to survive the encounter after they show up.
These cops have no idea what to do, that’s the scariest part. They genuinely don’t know what to do beyond handcuffing someone.
The cop even says “his nose is buried” and then they laugh.
This man called the police for help. And they killed him. Since there is no chance any of them will serve a sentence or lose their job, I hope guilt rots them from the inside out until the day they die. Fuck you. Every single one of you.
Anyone working in a post where they may have to restrain people are told that positional asphyxia is very likely in this position. You need to position the person on their side every couple of minutes to allow them to get good, full breaths. This man’s bodyweight alone would have been enough to kill him in this position, but with an extra 100kg on his back he didn’t stand a chance.
So a mixture of incompetence and stupidity I suspect.

To every situation like this there is 100 well handled incidents though, it must be said. But fuck those cops. They should all be prosecuted.

I am fully prepared to be down-voted to hell on this one, but the “gallows humor,” while horribly ill-timed/fated in this instance, is no worse than what happens in any field where dealing with people on a regular basis feeds into the jaded aspects of these careers. These guys see a lot of shit that we don’t, and it literally turns into a coping mechanism.
To be clear: I am NOT excusing their actions. It is absolutely evident that they did not need to crush the man’s chest for nearly fifteen minutes. For crying out loud, they basically created their own “shocked Pikachu” situation, and I hope they pay for it.
I can provide a couple of examples that lead to this type of behavior (which really occurred):
1.) Domestic violence situation. Man and woman get into a fight with their young child present. Man goes off into the bedroom and comes back with a gun, which he threatens to use. The woman dismisses and belittles him, so he kills himself by shooting himself in the chest in front of the woman and their child.
When the cops show up and get the story while taking care of the scene, the Sgt. says, “Well. He won’t do that again.”
2.) A guy decides he wants to kill himself. Goes to a small unfinished driveway/side street about 30 yards away from a brand new apartment complex. Someone was on their balcony and he pulled the trigger before they understood what he was doing. So they call the cops. Cops show up, and he didn’t do the deed right, but there was also nothing they could do before paramedics show up, so everyone got to watch this man–now missing part of his face–die.
One of the cops says, “Stupid motherfucker. All this extra work over a couple of inches.” (The distance he needed to have done it right.)
For what it’s worth, being a cop isn’t easy.
How do you ask if someone is okay, question their state of conscious and if they are acknowledging or not while you have a knee in his back while his face is in grass? He’s cuffed. Let off of him, he ain’t going anywhere.
