Its honestly a refreshing change of pace to have a character that while relatively friendly is flat out stated even by themselves to be in it for their own simple self interests. The Fenrir is neither good nor evil he is more a greater neutral that the main character has as a servant in exchange for regular high quality meals.
I know I will see people complain about our MC being a wimp but like if you suddendly got transported into a world of monsters you would probably also be scared. Also this is a slice of life anime ! There doesn't have to be a major character development.
